IAG’s Latest Hangar 51 Accelerator Starts
Hundreds of global start-ups applied to be in this year’s first ever virtual programme which is being run in collaboration with Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Vueling, LEVEL, IAG Loyalty, IAG Tech and IAG GBS. The successful applicants were selected after presenting their innovative products and services before 250 senior aviation and travel industry executives at a virtual pitch event.
According to BagsID, the company’s system works in a similar way that the app Shazam does for music recognition. Photographs of suitcases taken in the baggage system are compared with photographs of those already in the network using AI, with the bags’ characteristics – such as colour, material, dents and stickers – used as ways to identify each one.

Successor Baggage Tags Developed at Eindhoven Airport
According to BagsID, Eindhoven Airport is the first airport in the world to test this technology. It is expected that the use of this new technology will be more accurate, environmentally friendly and cheaper than checking in hold baggage via scanning baggage tags.

Eindhoven Airport to Trial New Baggage Check-in Technology
Eindhoven Airport, Vanderlande and baggage identification specialist BagsID will apply computer learning and image recognition technology. This will allow passengers to check in an item of luggage simply by having camera equipment take a photograph of it.
